Moving Stories Project

The Charlotte Street Arts Centre and Solo Chicken Productions joined forces in January to launch the MOVING STORIES Project, a five-month long project that offers the youth of Fredericton’s Doone Street community the opportunity to share their stories and voice through theatre and art.

Over the last few months the participants have created a re-imagined performance of The Three Little Pigs which will be performed publicly at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and at The Doone Street Community Centre.

This project has been led by members of Solo Chicken Productions’ physical theatre company where they have offered participants access to free arts programming in music, art, movement, voice, script-devising and improvisation.

We are excited to offer this collective community arts experience along with Solo Chicken Productions, and hope to see everyone come out to see this wonderful performance!

Led by Solo Chicken coop artists Alexa Higgins and Jean-Michel Cliche with support from Ian Goff, Alex Donovan, Lexi MacRae, Allison Green, Penelope Stevens and Madeleine Whalen, the artists have been working with youth in the community sharing theatre skills and helping them to write a short and heartfelt play about everyone’s desire to belong in their community, using The Three Little Pigs as a base.

The project highlights the talent and engagement of the youth who live in the Doone Street Community!

The play will be presented Sunday June 5th during the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Family Day at 1:15 pm if you want to come out and show your support. Many thanks to the City of Fredericton, The Fredericton Community Foundation, Isaac’s Way Restaurant and The NB Children’s Foundation for supporting this project and helping NB youth to share their stories and develop their creative voice!
