Mozart’s more than Crazy Day at the Capitol Theatre!

Le Nozze di Figaro affiche The Université de Moncton’s Music Department Opera Workshop presents Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro on Saturday, January 30th at 7:30 pm as well as a Sunday matinée, on January 31st at 2 pm.

You are cordially invited to the Almaviva Estate for Figaro’s wedding day, where nothing seems to go quite as planned! Countless quiproquos and imbroglios keep Figaro and his fiancée, Susanna, on their toes in this opera buffa, where servants become the real masters of the plot. “What a delight to be working on a classic comedy with the Music Department’s young students!” declares Artistic Director, Philip André Collette. “I hope the audience will have as much fun as we are during rehearsals!”

According to Musical Director Monette Gould, “There is no doubt, Figaro is a very challenging opera to mount, but it offers such a great opportunity for the students to work on character building and timing, as well as being accompanied by a live orchestra.” Conductor Tony Delgado has gathered both student and professional musicians, along with the Tutta Musica ensemble, for this year’s opera orchestra.

Super duo Sylvain Ward and Annik Landry are back again in designing props and sets, as well as ensuring stage managing. Justin Gauvin acts as lighting director for a second year, and long-time collaborator and seamstress, Bernice Goguen is hard at work on the many period costumes of the opera. “This is the final sprint! We can’t wait to be on stage at the Capitol Theatre!” exclaims Madeleine Albert, who plays the witty and exuberant character of Susanna.

Based on the popular play by the famous French playwright, Beaumarchais, Le Nozze di Figaro has all the necessary ingredients of the classic comedy: twisted plots, disguises, colourful characters, imbroglios and quiproquos. Come and discover for yourself why the author had also titled his play “The Crazy Day”.

Le Nozze di Figaro is a complete opera production showcasing the talents of the Université de Moncton’s Music Department students of the voice class. Presented in Italian with English and French surtitles on Saturday January 30th at 7:30 pm as well as a Sunday matinée at 2 pm, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, is sure to be a real crowd pleaser!
