FESTIVAL INSPIRE brings art into the streets

Happening in downtown Moncton
Happening in downtown Moncton

Spring is here and L’Art ici SVP is bringing life and colour to the streets again! This year the dynamic public art organization is hosting the first edition of FESTIVAL INSPIRE, bringing public art to Downtown Moncton, (with an installation as well in both Dieppe and Riverview) from June 10th to the 13th. The festival brings together artists and creative minds from around the region as well as some big international names from the global contemporary muralist scene. Murals will be painted in designated areas throughout Moncton’s downtown core and situated in high traffic, high visibility locations for everyone to enjoy.

A highlight of this year’s festival is the “People’s Pianos” Project, where six pianos will be painted by local artists and placed in public locations for anyone to play all summer long. Piano locations so far include Greater Moncton International Airport and City Hall. Each of the pianos will have their own mini launch show – all free to join. The first launch show will be outside Moncton City Hall at noon (12pm) on Wednesday June 10th where everyone is invited for the ribbon cutting. Who knows, you might even get to see Councillor Dawn Arnold play a tune …

“We want to bring colour and creativity to the downtown area, increasing capacity for business development and making Moncton a more walkable, cyclable, and liveable city. 42% of downtown is currently occupied by parking lots and it seems like everyday another Main St storefront becomes vacant. We need to work together to bring life back into our city,” says Lisa Griffin, Co-Founder of L’Art ici SVP and Inspire Festival.

Festivities will also include a Picaroons Beer Tent, a night market full of weird and wonderful wares, yarnbombing, street performance, live music, live painting, and a walk-in camera Obscura on the riverfront. There will be something for the whole family.

The festival launch party will be held at the Vortiscope Installation next to Bore Park on Thursday June 11th from 6pm to 8pm. You don’t want to miss it! Bring the whole family.
