Celebrate the 50th anniversary of “The Twist” with legendary American pop icon, Chubby Checker at Casino New Brunswick, in Moncton, Thursday, April 24 at 8 pm.
Over 40 years ago, Checker exploded onto the music scene with his number one hit “The Twist” which sparked the dance phenomenon of the same name. From there, Checker went on to release several top 40 songs such as “Let’s Twist Again”, “Pony Time”, “The Fly” and “Limbo Rock”. Checker revolutionized “dancing apart to the beat” – dancing apart looking into our partner’s eyes, expressing ourselves by rocking, rolling, moving and grooving, shimmying and shaking. When you did this, you were doing “The Chubby Checker”.
In 2008, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio rewarded Checker with a special award presentation. Checker thrilled the crowd by performing his hits, new and old, to the delight of everyone. A lengthy photo and autograph session followed, which highlighted Checker’s favourite part, getting to interact with people.
2009 took Checker abroad including special shows in Germany (2010) as well as his annual appearances at Disneyworld. 2009 also marked the release of an updated version of “The Fly”. A younger generation now shook their hands as the dance reappeared in clubs.
It is now the 50th Anniversary Year of “The Twist”. Special ceremonies have taken place in front of City Hall in Philadelphia and Wildwood, NJ and the 50th Anniversary Tour continues along in 2014.
Tickets for the show and now on sale and range from $19.99 to $45.99 (plus tax and applicable surcharge). They are available at the Casino Gift Shop (located at 21 Casino Drive in Moncton, exit #450 off the Trans-Canada Highway), by calling 1-866-943-8849 and online at casinonb.ca.
