The City of Dieppe and Circus Stella invite all the population to the 2nd edition of the Festival du cirque de Dieppe (Dieppe Circus Festival) to be held at Place 1604 from July 24 to 27, 2013.

After a very successful first edition of the festival in July 2012, where approximately 3,000 people were able to witness great performances at the Wednesday Show and during other events over four days, the City of Dieppe and Circus Stella have decided to pursue their partnership. This year it will be just as exciting with its three aspects. First, the free Wednesday Show at Place 1604 on July 24 with emerging and professional artists, then the four big top ticketed performances of the Vague de cirque troupe on July 25, 26 and 27 and circus workshops from Thursday to Saturday.

This year’s Wednesday Show will present aerial performances by Atlantic Cirque of Halifax featuring Carey Hacket and Bradisha Benjamin, juggling and dance with Jimmy Gonzalez, Moncton’s own Erika Nguyen will perform an aerial hoop number, Circus Stella’s stilt walkers, under the creative direction of Julie Duguay will present an original choreography, and Vague de cirque will contribute Russian bar, juggling and diabolo performances. L’Ensemble Bonaccord, a swing band under the direction of Richard Gibson will also be part of the entertainment package.

Vague de Cirque is a professional circus company based in the Magdalen Islands. They will present their two-hour show, Caroussel et Corde à linge Thursday and Friday night and Saturday in the afternoon and evening under their circus tent at Place 1604. The instigators of that project, Noémie Gervais and Alain Boudreau have performed with the greatest companies in the world, including Cirque du Soleil, Circus Krône, Teatro Zinzani and Cirque Éloize. They won a silver medal at the Festival de Cirque de Demain in Paris with their duo Symbiose. Vague de cirque’s format gives the audience the opportunity to experience circus in a unique way; by being a few metres from the action under the friendly and welcoming tent with eight artists from the Americas and Europe.

“Our special feature at Vague de cirque, in comparison with other companies, is the intimate atmosphere; the people are close to the stage, close to all the action, the aerial are just over your head and you can really feel the effort, the concentration of the artists,” says Noémie Gervais.

Workshops will be organized by the Atlantic Circus School, and the Dieppe Centre des arts et de la culture on Thursday and Friday for 5 to 13 year-olds. Adults will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops on Saturday, July 27 starting at 10am at Place 1604 where they will be open to everyone. You can then try out mini trampoline, juggling, trapeze, aerial hoop, and more. All scheduling and registration information is available at the Dieppe Centre des arts et de la culture at (506)854-2787.

It takes many partners to organize an event like the Festival du cirque de Dieppe. This project is made possible with the collaboration of the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes du Québec, the City of Dieppe, the province of New Brunswick, the Atlantic Cirque school, the Capitol Theatre, l’Université de Moncton, the Centre des arts et de la culture de Dieppe, the Wednesday Show, branch graphic design, the Ramada Plaza and Crystal Palace.
