TNB Theatre School’s Senior Musical Theatre Present Les Misérables

In a few days TNB Theatre School’s Senior Musical Theatre students take to the stage with one of the world’s most popular and longest running musicals, Les Misérables. Wrought with themes of redemption and revolution, this Tony award-winning musical is set in 19th-century France. The epic musical by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg is based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo of the same name. TNB’s students will tell the heart-swelling story of Jean Valjean, or “Prisoner 24601,” and the trials and tribulations of those most vulnerable in his society.

Running April 14th-16th at the Fredericton Playhouse, Les Misérables will be presented at 8pm each night, with an additional 2pm matinee on the 16th. This is TNB Theatre School’s most ambitious project to date, with 40 student cast members from the Fredericton area and across the province. The students have received direction throughout the year from TNB Theatre School Director Tania Breen. As Breen notes, “I have watched with amazement as our talented students take on this epic challenge. They have, as always, exceeded my expectations!” Breen has also been impressed with the talented production and creative teams assembled, including Alex Good as Orchestra and Musical Director, for a show that has produced some of the greatest musical theatre songs of all time.

Les Misérables is a daunting production, with a huge cast and difficult musical numbers. Breen knew instinctively, however, that this was the year to rise to the challenge. “With the 25th anniversary of the musical being celebrated across the globe, we wanted it to be honoured in New Brunswick as well. This is TNB Theatre School’s most ambitious project to date, but one that we were prepared for. With school enrollment reaching an all-time high of 400 students, we had the immense talent needed to pull it off with flying colours.”
