NaNoWriMo Gears Up In Fredericton

The New Brunswick chapters of National Novel Writing Month are gearing up for an exciting month of activities. NaNoWriMo is a nonprofit literary challenge that encourages aspiring novelists all over the world to write a 50,000-word novel in a month. At midnight on Nov. 1, more than 100,000 writers from over 80 countries – poised over laptops and pads of paper, fingers itching and minds racing with plots and characters – will begin a furious adventure in fiction. By 11:59 PM on Nov. 30, tens of thousands of them will be novelists.

Anyone is welcome to participate, and it’s free!

In Fredericton, many activities will help writers bang out 50,000 words in 30 days. On Sunday, October 25, there will be a “meet n’ greet” at Dairy Queen (South Side) at 2 p.m. Other activities include a kick-off party on Oct. 30 and weekly “write-ins,” where participants work on their novels in the company of others. We also have a Writing Retreat fundraiser planned for Sunday, Nov. 8.

Local events are also being planned in Saint John and Moncton. Check out the New Brunswick forum on NaNoWriMo.org closer to November for details!
