Spiritual Gifts at Christmas

Spiritual Gifts at Christmas
by Jeannine Watson

Give a gift to a loved one who is no longer with you. Recite something wonderful in their memory at the Christmas dinner, share your memories of them—perhaps a talent or even a fault, nobody’s perfect. The greatest gift for someone who is no longer with us is to be remembered!

Talk to the children about their grandparents (whether living or deceased). If deceased take out their picture and put it where it can be seen, have a toast at the dinner table in their honour. They are the ones who for so many years contributed so much to the family.

Think of the lonely this Christmas. It might be your neighbour, or it might be someone in your family, or it might be a total stranger. Give the gift of your time, words of encouragement! Put your heart in high gear at Christmastime.

Look for gifts that do not involve money. Do errands for someone, who may have difficulty doing them on their own. Extend a hand to someone who needs affection. Pray for world peace.

Give your kids extra hugs at Christmas. Give thanks for all your blessings. Say a Grace before your family meal.

Remember the gifts that are very special are the ones you give just because you want to say I love you. Christmastime is a really special time to show kindness to your loved ones. Gifts are special gestures from your heart.

And most important, try to keep the Christmas spirit living in your heart all year long. Merry Christmas to all and to all a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
