Downtown New Brunswick Awards

Downtown New Brunswick Awards

Downtown New Brunswick, the provincial Ministry of Environment and local government handed out awards to downtown business associations in New Brunswick on November 25th. The presentations were made in the Petitcodiac Room of the Lord Beaverbrook Hotel at the Annual General Meeting of Downtown NB.

The Honorable Brenda Fowlie presented winners with this first time award. Downtown NB and the province developed a grant program in 2003-2004 to help stimulate proper planning as a basis upon which strong downtowns would be built or sustained. The awards reflect the best of the submissions received.

Downtown NB represents 29 Business Improvement Areas across New Brunswick.

“We have recently completed our own strategic plan which identified the need to help our member organizations in their efforts to strengthen their respective downtowns,” said Carol Campbell, acting President of Downtown NB.

Peter Asimakos who is also a board member of Downtown NB, chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and sees the awards and AGM as an opportunity to make more people aware of the grant program for planning.

“Downtowns of New Brunswick are key economic engines for the province and their respective municipalities and if they are not in a healthy condition then the entire province will suffer — we see this program as a critical component to sustaining the health of our province.”
