Now entering our 19th season, our artistic vision has evolved into exploring in-depth the music of two specific composers each season, one well known and one lesser so. We are the only classical chamber music festival in Canada that uses this two-composer concept to determine repertoire. We believe that this concept educates while entertaining our audiences and develops deeper music appreciation through this process.

This year the New Brunswick Summer Festival will run from August 13 – 25 in Fredericton and will feature the music of French composer Claude Debussy and Canadian composer Talivaldis Kenins.

Talivaldis Kenins was a composer, teacher, pianist, and organist, born at Liepaja, Latvia in 1919. Kenins began playing piano at five and composing at seven, continuing piano studies in France while preparing at the Lycée Champollion in Grenoble for a diplomatic career. He studied piano and composition 1940-44 at the State Conservatory at Riga with Joseph Wihtol and, forced from Latvia by the Soviet occupation following World War II, continued from 1945-51 at the Paris Conservatory.

Kenins emigrated to Canada in 1951 to assume duties as organist-choirmaster for the Latvian congregation of St Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Toronto. He also founded the St Andrew’s Latvian Choir (one of the important choirs of its type in North America) and conducted it until 1958. He became the founder and president of the Latvian Concert Association of Toronto in 1959.

Kenins began teaching at the University of Toronto in 1952 and was co-ordinator of the composition division from 1977-79. He was named professor emeritus on his retirement in 1984. Walter Kemp, Edward Laufer, Bruce Mather, Ben McPeek, and Arthur Ozolins were among his pupils. Owing largely to the communicative disposition of his musical language and the consistency of his craft, Kenins became one of Canada’s most frequently commissioned composers.

In the late 1940s and 1950s, Talivaldis Kenins’ style strove to reconcile the romanticism of his nature and the neoclassicism of a French training. The concertante style, dominant in his musical speech, was stabilized by counterpoint. The plethora of notes and the tendency to over-emphasis gave way in the 1960s to greater transparency and leaner outlines. His counterpoint recalled his academic training, but his fugues gradually became more sophisticated. In his compositions of the 1970s, Kenins broke consciously with the conservative image he had defended so assiduously.

In 1989 RCI, as part of its Anthology of Canadian Music series, released a four-CD set devoted to Kenins’ music (4-ACM 33). Included on the set was a conversation between Kenins and Montreal critic Eric McLean. A further CD, Music of Talivaldis Kenins, was issued by Centrediscs in 1997 (CMCCD-5997); CBC Records featured his music on Ovations, Vol. 3 (PSCD 2028-5). Kenins was a member (and president 1973-4) of the Canadian League of Composers, and an associate of the Canadian Music Centre.

Claude Debussy was born 1862 at St. Germain-en-Laye, France. From the age of ten on, Debussy was a brilliant student at the Paris Conservatoire de Musique, where he won the highest prizes for composition – including the Prix de Rome for his cantata L’Enfant prodique. He wrote for the piano as no one before him had ever dreamed of: Sometimes the notes were bunched together, while other times they were laced at the ends of the keyboard; and pedals were used to make notes and harmonies shift and blend. He found inspiration in the same images as those that attracted the French Impressionist painters – clouds, rain, wind, water, sunlight, and shadow. The result was a new and magical world of sound that inspired several generations of classical and jazz musicians.

Debussy reached his musical maturity during the closing years of the 19th century, when the Late Romantic period of Liszt and Wagner was coming to an end and many composers were looking for new musical paths to take. He took his inspiration from many artistic sources; Wagner’s music, the art and music of the Orient, Impressionist painters such as Degas, poetry, and the sinuous lines and pastel shades of contemporary Art Nouveau. From these sources, he forged a musical style that is both original in its harmonies, rhythms, and musical tones, and often quietly beautiful.

Debussy’s influence on the music of the 20th century, from the concert hall and opera house to the world of jazz, has been immense. His finest works, including his orchestral masterpiece La mer and many of his piano pieces, sound as original and effective today as they did a century ago.

In the July/August 2010 issue of Bread ‘n Molasses magazine, we sat down with Miramichi singer/ songwriter, Ted Lynch, for a candid conversation about his trip to Nashville, Tennessee to record his first album. Now, almost two years later, Ted is heading back to the studio and graciously allowed us to follow up. Spending any time with Ted is a breath of fresh air. He’s still the humble man we introduced to you all that time ago, still committed to inspiring people through his music. And he’s doing it!

BnM: It’s been about a year and a half since we did that first article in Bread ‘n Molasses. At that time you were back from recording your debut album in Nashville and some of the songs were starting to get airplay on stations all across North America. Can you tell me, what has life been like since then?

Ted: First off, I’d like to say thank you to Bread ‘n Molasses for being interested in following my music. My first album did quite well so far. I’m actually not finished with all its promotion. I still have two songs to release to radio.

The album hasn’t brought that many changes to my life other than I’ve been working at Life Radio part-time rather than full-time for about a year and half. I had to pull back from work to be able to focus on the album’s promotion and to have more flexibility to travel. It’s worked out well to this point and I’m thankful. It’s a little tough to get moving on Monday mornings however, when you’ve travelled all weekend. LOL.

Ted's debut album. Click the photo to purchase a copy.

BnM: How were album sales?

Ted: For a maritime traveller on the weekends I think I did alright. Sales were good enough to cover the costs of my upcoming recording. I’ve done some venues where I sold 50 CDs afterwards and I’m grateful. That means the messages in the music are connecting with people and I’m going to try and relate even more to the listeners on the next album.

BnM: Did any of the singles reach any particular milestones on the charts or win any awards?

Ted: I’m not really into awards. My very first release “Times of Trouble” was voted on as one of the top 20 songs in Canada. They called and shared that with me and I never even told anyone until just last month. A lot of artists would have Facebooked all their family, friends and fans to vote, but I’m not into that. If DJs like the song, they’ll play it! That’s all I’m after. I just want people to hear the song and its message.

However, each song released in the US thus far has charted well. “Clean and Sober” reached #3 on Inspirational Country. “Chevy Truck” reached #11 on HMG Nashville and “I Don’t Want To Miss” reached #1 on CMW (Christian Music Weekly).

Ted Lynch, photo courtesy TedLynch.com.

BnM: And wow! The Prime Minister wrote to you personally about your first album! That is amazing! Tell me about that day when you got the letter. Were you expecting anything like that?

Ted: I wasn’t expecting a letter from the Prime Minister but I did know that he was given my album because I had signed it before giving it to MP Tilly O’Neil Gordon. Tilly is a friend of mine and said she’d like to give a copy to the PM.

I thought the letter was pretty neat. It sat in my desk for a few weeks and I happened to mention it to my co-worker, Matt Hallihan. He kinda made a big deal out of it and said I should frame it. LOL. I never framed it, but then I decided to let people know about it after that on my website.

BnM: I see you have a free download for the title track, “Invade My Soul”, on your website, can we include that link on our website for our readers to download?

Ted: Yes for sure. I didn’t release that song properly like I had wanted to. A few stations have aired it, but this month I’m actually re-releasing it to positive a/c stations in Canada. The song has been digitally modified specifically for radio. That just means it has been shortened to be more industry friendly so it’ll receive more airplay on stations.

Click here to download “Invade My Soul” for free!

BnM: Something that we never really talked about for that first story was your past and how so many of your songs, especially on the first album, come out of your personal dark experiences and inspire others to transform their own lives. I wondered if we might talk about that for a bit. Who was Ted Lynch all those years ago when his life was broken? And how did he come to turn it all around?

Ted: I don’t mind sharing, it’s what I live for today. If I can overcome, I believe others can too. In a nut shell, I was a wounded kid with a lot of big dreams who was overcome with hurt and fear. It mostly stemmed from a broken relationship with my dad. I became heavily involved with partying as a youth. I certainly deemed myself an alcoholic which also led me to dabble in drugs as well. I was a bright student in elementary and middle school but was abusing so bad as a teenager, I nearly failed high school.

I was in a bad car accident after I graduated and things went from bad to worse. I ended up in detox and during college a couple years later, I finally got into some serious trouble with the law in 1990. I ended up doing time in a county jail after breaking into the college I was studying at. I was in a very intoxicative state. I could only go a little while without getting drunk or high and then I’d get into some sort of trouble.

The last night I was in jail, I went to a church service on the inside and the preacher told me that I needed a savior. He was right! Of course I knew about God and church and Jesus from attending as a kid and I believed in God, but my life was a mess and anything but where I was supposed to be. I was at a point where I needed Jesus to be real! Not some story I had heard about. I knew I needed some sort of saving. So I surrendered my life to Christ and when I say, “He’s made all the difference” … you can believe it.

My relationship with my dad began to be restored after my experience and he became one of my closest friends. I miss him a lot! Dad passed away in 2010 just two months after coming home from Nashville with my first recording. The title of my second album has been inspired by my dad with the title, “His Boot’s”.

Today when I’m on stage, in a school or a prison or any platform sharing, no one gets anymore inspired than me. I know where I was and I know where I’m at today and I’ll be forever filled with gratitude for what the Lord has done in my life! It’s TGIF for me everyday of the week. “Thank God, I’m Free”.

Ted Lynch, photo courtesy TedLynch.com

BnM: So let’s talk about the new album now … How is this album going to be different than the first one?

Ted: Almost half the new songs I’ve written were written with mainstream Canadian country radio in mind. These songs will not only be released to Christian Country radio but mainstream country as well. I believe they carry very positive messages that will touch people.

The new album will also see a new face in the band. I’m really excited to have Pat Buchanan on electric and lead guitar. Buchanan is a monster guitarist. He’s Faith Hill’s guitarist. He’s also played for Travis Tritt, the Dixie Chicks and countless others. He’s toured the world with Hall & Oats and Cyndi Lauper back in the 80′s. Not many in Nashville would have a resume like this guy.

BnM: And how is the album going to be the same? If indeed, it will have any similarities.

Ted: The album’s aim is to definitely inspire the listener just as the first. You’ll also hear a diverse sound. No two songs will be near the same. I like that in an album.

BnM: I watched the video Larry Lynch, your brother, did about your new song, “Strength”. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Is it going to be on the new album?

Ted: Ya know, when I began playing that song I got a great response from it and I had full intent to record it. Unfortunately, it’s not going to make the cut. My producer and I felt that song didn’t fit this project. That’s one of the most difficult things for me to deal with, leaving a song behind. But, you never know, at another time it may be called up and tweaked a bit for recording.

BnM: Who are you working with on this album?

Ted: The majority of people wouldn’t know the names of the band members and musicians, but would most definitely know the names of the artist they’ve played for. Artists like Hank Williams Jr., Shania Twain, Billy Ray Cyrus, Alan Jackson, Keith Urban, George Straight … I mean these guys have played for the best artists in the industry. That’s why we chose them for this project. You know it when you hear that big sound on an album. People will never purchase your second album if it’s not well produced. That’s why they call it Music City USA.

BnM: When do you expect it to be released? And where will people be able to hear it or buy copies?

Ted: When I get back from Nashville I’ll be back on the air at Life Radio of course and I’ll begin the process of designing an album cover and the works. Once that’s done I’ll have it sent out to be pressed. In the midst of that and watching my children when they get home from school, plus setting up a tour in Newfoundland for May, I’ll plan a CD launch in Miramichi as soon as possible. However, I’ll probably have the album in some local stores before the launch for anyone interested.

BnM: How many new songs have you written for the album?

Ted: The new album will consist of 10 maybe 11 songs

Ted Lynch, photo courtesy TedLynch.com.

BnM: What has been your inspiration behind your new songs?

Ted: The inspiration behind my new songs are to help people recognize there’s a plan for each person’s life. I hope I can inspire people to get into high gear and get excited about reaching their full potential because life seems way too short.

BnM: And as always … what is next for Ted Lynch?

Ted: I think I’m going to have to work harder on this new album if I’m going to release to mainstream country radio stations in Canada. That means more finances will be needed and more self discipline on my part. The stakes are higher with this album and the vision is getting bigger. With that said, I may have to make some tough career choices in the near future.

BnM: Well, I’m sure I speak for all our readers when I say we wish you well on this next chapter of your musical journey. Congratulations on all your success so far and I’m looking forward to checking back with you in another year or so to see where the journey has taken you.

Hospice Miramichi Presents: “A Taste of Chocolate”
By Cindy Rule

If you love chocolate, laughing, music and helping out in your community, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be heading to the Rodd Miramichi River on Saturday February 11th, 2012 at 7pm.

“A Taste of Chocolate” is returning to the Rodd as a fundraiser for Hospice Miramichi. Below is some information about Hospice Miramichi from their website:

“Hospice Miramichi is a non-profit volunteer organization and was established in March 2011. The focus of hospice care is on comfort not cure, and on life not death. Hospice Miramichi is seeking to raise awareness of the unique needs of those who are living with life threatening illnesses where cure is not an option and medications are no longer controlling the illness. Hospice Miramichi will work within the community by providing services and support for clients and families within their homes. Our volunteers will be trained to provide practical and emotional support during the end stages of life and through the grieving process.

Our plan is to bring hospice to Miramichi in three (3) stages. First, the establishment of a Hospice Outreach Program, where in- home support services will be offered to assist palliative patients and their families live the remainder of their lives to the fullest extent possible. The second stage of our plan will be the addition of a Hospice Day Program. The third stage of our plan is to establish a Residential Hospice (RH) in Miramichi within the next 3-4 years.”

Turning this much needed organization into reality requires community help and “A Taste of Chocolate” is just one of the fundraisers that Hospice Miramichi will be presenting this year. They are hoping the turnout at these events will reflect the huge amount of support the Miramichi community and beyond has already shown Hospice Miramichi.

Along with mountains of delicious chocolate desserts (and non-chocolate treats if chocolate isn’t your thing), you will be treated to an original one act play written by yours truly, Cindy Rule, called “Defining Love.” Lisa Savage, Jason Blanchard and I will entertain you as we take you through the different stages of love; from childhood crushes to finding that special someone, we believe the play is filled with moments everyone can relate to.

The evening will also include music by Connie and Paul as well as an Arm’s Length Auction, Cake Auction and a 50/50 draw.

So, once again, the event details are …

By Cindy Rule

Last Christmas season, about a week or so before the big day, while my daughter Sorcha was eating dinner and I was washing dishes, we started talking about Christmas songs I’m not a big fan of. The list is many and my reasons lengthy, but what it boils down to mainly is that I am tired of the same songs every … single … year.

As Sorcha and I attempted to dissect the reasons for the fury that explodes from my being when I hear Jingle Bell Rock, we both had a delicious moment of sarcasm. In a moment of rambling, stream of consciousness silliness, a song involving pets dressed up in Christmas clothing was created. It was magical and I mean that sincerely because in only 90 minutes Sorcha and I together wrote a new Christmas song WITH music.

We were so happy with the song that we gathered our courage and sang it to a few lucky family members and friends over the holidays. (And I unleashed the tune solo and without warning at a friend’s party on boxing day … twice … to a crowd of bemused party guests.) I hope that this will be the first of many musical memories that my daughter and I create together.

So, for those of you out there who have been itching for a new Christmas tune, and in particular a song about Christmas and Pets, I give you …

Dressing Up Your Pet For Christmas

Dressing up your pet for Christmas
It’s not an easy thing to do
They don’t care what sweater
That you think looks better
Why are you even bothering with shoes
Dressing up your pet for Christmas

Dressing up your dog for Christmas
Don’t dress him up as Santa Claus
Put him a fluffy beard
All your friends will think you’re weird
He’ll yelp when you put boots on his paws
Dressing up your dog for Christmas

Dressing up your cat for Christmas
She’s not the mother of the Holy One
She’s just way too hairy
To be the Virgin Mary
This isn’t be her idea of fun
Dressing up your cat for Christmas

Dressing up your pet for Christmas
They don’t care if they match the tree
Even in something snappy
They’ll still look unhappy
It’s such a waste of money for me
Dressing up your pet for Christmas

Dressing up your fish for Christmas
He’s not into cloths this year
You won’t get him to wear a tie
He’s too fast don’t even try
He hardly even knows you’re here
Dressing up your fish for Christmas

Dressing up your pet for Christmas
It’s not an easy thing to do
They’ll just eat the sweater
That you think looks better
And soon they will be chewing on their shoes
Dressing up your pet for Christmas

Dressing up your pet for Christmas
Dressing up your pet … for Christmas

And there you have it — a new Christmas song. My mother-in-law, who was one of the few to hear this song over the holidays, actually caught herself singing it at work upon returning in the New Year!

We mean no offence to those of you who enjoy the old Christmas songs and certainly no offence to those of you out there who enjoy dressing up your pets at Christmas. This was just a bit of fun and silliness brought on by the joy of Christmas and the magic that can happen when you are lucky enough to spend the holidays with people you love.

Season Greetings everyone!

SappyFest Seven
“Like a Virgin”
August 3-5, 2012
Sackville, New Brunswick

Call for Proposals (non-musical and other projects)
Deadline: February 14th, 2012

SappyFest is currently seeking proposals for non-musical, other, and ongoing awesome creative projects to present alongside our always fantastic line-up of musical entertainment. We are interested in your spectacles, installations, prints/multiples, dances, circus acts, performances, interventions and relaxation services.

Generally we are looking for things that are ongoing or ambient, that is, not requiring a scheduled block of time with a dedicated audience sitting down watching you. We are seeking projects that will be embedded and intertwined within the broader SappyFest program, participatory and engaging or perhaps subtle, ephemeral or ambiguous. Mostly we’re after some amazing creative projects that will compliment the rich cultural tapestry that is SappyFest.

We will pay modest honorariums and contributions to materials when applicable. Fees will depend on the scope of individual projects.

Proposals should Include:

- a brief but detailed project description outlining what you would like to do and what you need to do it. (500 words max)

- artist/collective biography and/or CV

- relevant work samples (preferably online)

- a budget if applicable

How to send your proposals to us:

- We’re all trying to produce less paper but we will accept applications through the mail if this suits you and your situation.

SappyFest
6 Ford Lane
Sackville NB
E4L 3X1

- We do prefer email proposals, email submissions@sappyfest.com with your project proposal and online links to your work sample, portfolio etc.

- If you have to send us attachments over 10MB, please use a free web service like yousendit.com, rapidfire, or dropbox etc. Or, post it somewhere else and send a link.

- Are we making this more complicated than it is?

Thank you. We look forward to reviewing your proposals.

Unfortunately we don’t have the time or resources to reply to every submission. If we are interested in your project you should hear something in March.

For more information please contact: submissions@sappyfest.com or call 506 939 3339

SappyFest is a little independent music festival produced annually in Sackville, New Brunswick. Our seventh offering will take place August 3-5, 2012.

The SappyFest Mainstage site is a combination of two large tents, beer garden, merchandise market and uncovered open space with a capacity of 2000. The site is located in the heart of downtown Sackville, on Bridge Street, closing down the main commercial thoroughfare while creating a vibrant, high-profile epicentre for the festival.

Side stages are all within walking distance and include a free outdoor bandstand, art deco movie house, turn of the century United church, and a Royal Canadian Legion.

Now a registered non-profit organization, SappyFest Incorporated, the festival was founded in 2006 by the good people of Sappy Records, Julie Doiron, Jon Claytor and Paul Henderson. At the time it seemed like a more feasible way to get all our friends together than a wedding, and certainly more fun than releasing records into the ether.

This first solo album earned him three 2011 Music NB Awards: Anglophone Recording, Male Recording Artist, and Rock Recording as well as a nomination in the Emerging Artist category.

Phil Flowers used to be “a bit of a punk”, or so he says. His folk rock oriented People, People might beg to differ at first, but it’s clear after one listen of tracks such as Disguises, that Phil Flowers still has that cynical edge that is normally associated with punk. “When I write songs, I don’t deliberately sit down and decide what subject I am going to write about. I just follow my flow of consciousness and the words just pour out. It’s afterwards that I can decipher my own writing. Disguises is about how we always try to find quick and superficial explanations for different situations in our lives, when in truth, we should look past the façades, dig deeper than what first impressions tend to show us.”

The documentary’s running long; the story is now done and gone.
Let’s simplify, negotiate, the journey of the fifth estate.
Passengers are all out of frame, the driver’s in the passing lane.
The license plates all read the same.

People People

Under the heavy influence of American folk music, blues, and jazz, People People, creates the perfect atmosphere for Flowers’ fiercely imagist lyrics about social heartache, deception, and candour. Influenced by legends such as Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and at times Hank Williams, Phil Flowers is not content with the status quo and challenges the conception of what a singer/songwriter should be. Whether he’s scatting or growling, crooning or pleading, he brings the listener in and carries him along.

Launched on November 25, 2010, People People was recorded, mixed, and engineered at several locations in Moncton, NB by Derrick Aubie. The album was mastered by Marc “Chops” Arsenault at Hatchpost. Phil Flowers, in addition to singing, playing the acoustic guitar and harmonica, surrounded himself with Hub City musicians such as Christien Belliveau (electric guitar), Jeremy McFarlane (bass guitar), Pascal Raîche-Nogue (drums and percussions), and Julie Doucette (piano). All music and lyrics are by Phil Flowers, except One Trick Pony on which he collaborated with Jeremy McFarlane for the music.

Phil Flowers

Born and raised in Moncton, NB, Phil Flowers studied philosophy at Université de Moncton. Following the untimely dissolution of the band The Courage of Being, Phil Flowers went off on his own with the intention of making music that reflects the anxieties of existence and the integrity of true art through traditional forms. With the release of his debut album, People People (2010), Phil Flowers did just that. His album was received very positively by his peers and the public, his music likened to Sam Roberts and Wilco; his words to Kerouac and Dylan.

2011 also marked Phil Flowers’ first appearance at the East Coast Music Week, where he performed as a showcasing artist. Phil has played over 15 dates this year including two showcases and a few spots on summer festivals including Sunseekers Ball Music & Arts Festival and has played alongside Bernard Adamus, Keller William, Joe Grass, Les Païens, The Haunted Hearts, The Divorcees and Backyard Devils.

This song can be found on his EP Start Something, launched in October of this year.

The song tells their story – the story of two people who finally found their soul mates. Not only are the lyrics inspired by their relationship, but the melody and arrangement were inspired by his wife’s personality: free spirited, down-to-earth and ‘Wonderful’.

Caught you gazing at the moon
It was no déjà vu
For once I had a clue
I knew what to do
You made me a believer

Two years ago Mississippi Heat really lit up the Roadhouse. This is because Mississippi Heat is one of the hardest working bands in Chicago with one mantra: play the traditional down-home Chicago sound with lots of energy and an original twist. That formula has been working for them now for almost 20 years in every part of the world: they’ve headlined the Chicago and Montreal Blues Festivals, are in great demand in Europe, and regularly work the best clubs in Chicago and everywhere else they go. The band leader, Pierre Lacocque (who has Canadian connection–he studied at McGill) has had much success at being the centre of an evolving lineup that has kept the sound fresh and interesting, and that has included guitarists Billy Flynn, James Wheeler and Carl Weathersby, vocalists Deitra Farr, Zora Young and Inneta Visor, and drummer/vocalist Robert Covington. The current lineup includes the fine vocalist Inneta Visor, Daniel Draher (ex-Etta James) on guitar, long-time member Victor Jackson on bass, Kevin Johnson on drums with Pierre on harmonica.

Please note that the slightly delayed start time of 9.30 PM, to accommodate our patrons who are interested in seeing the highly recommended Performing Arts Series presentation of the Ingrid Jensen band at 8 PM.

The Buzz

“An energetic and cohesive ensemble. One of Chicago’s top bands.”
– CHICAGO TRIBUNE

“Quite simply the hottest band in Chicago…”
– CHICAGO SUN-TIMES

“One of the most exciting blues ensemble performing today. . . MISSISSIPPI HEAT is one of those bands that defies cliches because each CD is better than the last. . . Pierre Lacocque’s harmonica technique and musical imagination is superlative. He plays with the finesse and golden tone. Horn players could take lessons from him from the lines he uses.”
– PHIL LLOYD (AMERICAN HARMONICA NEWSLETTER)

“Pierre is a virtuoso.”
– BILLY BOY ARNOLD

“MISSISSIPPI HEAT not only breathes new life into the classic sounds of Chicago Blues but they also uplift with joy and dedication everything they play. Pierre Lacocque is that rare younger generation harpists who’s absorbed the lessons of subtlety, silence, and solo construction from the masters – Big and Little Walter, the Sonny Boy Williamsons – as well as their raucous, hawklike tonal power.”
– DAVID WHITEIS, (CHICAGO READER)

“All of MISSISSIPPI HEAT’s CD’s are pearls. This is one of my favorite blues band. . . I have rarely heard more passionate and soulful blues.”
– CLAUDE COTE (LE DEVOIR, MONTREAL,CANADA)

“It’s been a long time since I heard a good blues band like this. You guys really play great music together.”
– BUDDY GUY

“MISSISSIPPI HEAT has developed its own unmistakable sound. They have a signature, an immediately recognizable feel. . . Their CDs are a musical achievement.”
– RENE MOISAN (PRESIDENT, PRODUCTION BROS., MONTREAL, CANADA)

“This hard-driving Chicago blues band plays classic Chicago blues with flair, intelligence and respect for the traditions established by musical predecessors Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. . . MISSISSIPPI HEAT provides living proof that harp dominated Chicago style bands is not an anachronism.”

Thanks to the TBS sponsors, without whom The 9th annual TBS blues series would be impossible: The Sackville Save Easy, The Sackville Tribue Post, Ove Samuelson Law Office, George’s Roadhouse, Rod Allen Co. Ltd., the Marshlands Inn, Joey’s Pizza, The Argosy and CHMA.
