Frye Festival Activities for Kids

aroundworldwords The first activity of the new AROUND THE WORD series for kids 9 to 11 will take place this Saturday October 17 at 2 pm at the Moncton Free Meeting House with author Diane Carmel Léger. The Free Meeting House is located at 20 Mountain Rd next to Resurgo Place.

Participants will discover the “presents” left behind by our region’s history with Diane Carmel Léger and her book Piau’s Potato Present. The short bilingual presentation will be followed by an unusual visit of the museum at Resurgo Place where the participants will be able to write their own stories surrounded by historical objects.

Entrance is free and no registration is required. It’s not necessary to be bilingual, as the activity will take place in both official languages. All necessary material will be available on site.

The next activities of the AROUND THE WORD series will take place on March break 2016 and during the Fye Festival week next April. The series is presented by the Frye Festival and offers kids the chance to meet authors and discover the wonderful world of books and imagination.

FRYE ACADEMY: registration deadline on Tuesday October 20

Frye Academy offers bilingual students the chance to read and debate four contemporary Canadian books (two in French, two in English). The author of the winning book is then invited to meet the young jury in an activity open to the public. There is no cost to participate and the Festival provides all jury members with the books in contention.

The first debate will take place in December and the books selected are: Lullabies for Little Criminals (Harper Collins Canada, 2006), the first novel written by award-winning author Heather O’Neill and La déesse des mouches à feu (Le Quartanier, 2014), the debut novel for Geneviève Pettersen, also know as Madame Chose.

More details at www.frye.ca, and the deadline to register is Tuesday, October 20th at info@frye.ca.
