Beth Powning Book Launch in Sussex

A unique event coming soon to Sussex.
A unique event coming soon to Sussex.

Internationally acclaimed author, Beth Powning, takes us on a fascinating journey into the dark recesses of history. Her new novel, A Measure of Light, will be launched in a unique experience at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sussex on Friday, March 13th, 2015 at 7 pm. Admission is free and includes refreshments, the Author Reading, Q & A, and Book Signing.

Powning has crafted a sensitive work of imagination that is meticulously true to historical record. It is an absorbing tale of one woman’s fearless challenge to society’s dictates governing women’s rights, motherhood, and the search for peace in one’s own heart. In her struggle for freedom of conscience, she ultimately discovers how the persecuted often become the persecutors.

In 2011, over 500 people flocked to Sussex to attend the Sussex Literary Initiatives and Cultural Events (SLICE) launch of Powning’s book, The Sea Captain’s Wife. They were treated to an outstanding nautical event that brought the historic setting of her book to life. The Sussex Legion was magically transformed into a 19th century sailing schooner, featuring members and guests in period costume, sea shanty musicians, a marine art gallery, home-made chowder and biscuits, and a museum featuring priceless local artifacts of the era lovingly displayed by proud owners.

Once again SLICE,  in partnership with Moncton’s prestigious Frye Festival and Knopf Canada, is pleased to present the Sussex launch of Powning’s new novel, A Measure of Light. This unique experience will feature an author reading, Q&A, and Book signing with music performed by La Tour Baroque Duo, a hands-on art event involving the audience, a Living Museum with demonstrations and slide shows. Picaroons will make a special “Measure of Light” ale to accompany the historically accurate refreshments offered free of charge for this event. To set the atmosphere, guests are encouraged to dress in black or in 17th century costume.

A Measure of Light by Beth Powning, Knopf Canada, will be distributed for sale at the Sussex book launch by Chapters/ Indigo.
