Don’t miss the Silver Wave in Fredericton this weekend.

The 14th annual Silver Wave Film Festival (SWFF) featuring over 120 films, a full slate of special events and an industry film summit, will be presented over four days in Fredericton, starting Thursday November 6th and running through Sunday November 9th.

“Silver Wave is on a mission annually, to spotlight the creative talent of New Brunswick filmmakers and filmmakers around the world,” says Tony Merzetti, SWFF Co-organizer. “There were so many incredible films from New Brunswick and around the globe submitted this year that we had to add additional programming, it was very exciting to receive so much amazing creative content. The province of New Brunswick is pleased to support what many call the best little grass roots film festival around.”

The Silver Wave Film Festival’s Gala Opening Night will take place on Thursday November 6th, at 7 pm at Tilley Hall, room 102, UNB Campus. The evening will feature the Opening Gala presentation of Kung Fu Elliot, directed and written by Moncton based Jaret Belliveau and Matthew Bauckman and produced by David Eberts. This award winning film has played at major film festivals around the world and is slated to have its theatrical release right after it opens at SWFF.

Elliot White Lightning Scott, an eccentric martial artist from Moncton, New Brunswick, dreams of becoming Canada’s first action hero with his low-budget karate epic, Blood Fight. This surreal documentary captures two years in the lives of a passionate amateur filmmaker, his supportive partner Linda, and their outrageous cast, all trying to realize their dreams.

Following the Opening Gala film presentation is the New Brunswick Music Video Showcase. This exciting new event will spotlight filmmakers and the bands they admire and support, and will take place at the James Joyce Irish Pub Thursday night at 10 pm.

The festival is also very excited to present the film Aller-Retour which was directed by Moncton based filmmaker Gilles Doiron, produced by Jean-Marc Goguen and written by a team of New Brunswick youth from different areas of the province. The screening of Aller-Retour takes place on Saturday November 8th at 2 pm at Le Centre communautaire Sainte-Anne.

Saddened by her grandmother’s death, a young woman armed with an old photo album pays her final respects by taking the same trek across New Brunswick that her grandmother did years back. Touching and sweet, this coming of age story also has the province of New Brunswick and its many beautiful towns and cities as a main character in the film.

The Festival’s Closing Gala presentation on Sunday November 9th at 7 pm will be The Divorce by Saint John based director, writer Rob Parsons and producer Elaine Shannon. Rob’s latest feature film sees the indie director veering once again into laugh-out-loud comedy with outrageous scenes played out to full effect. The Divorce plays at Tilley Hall, room 102, on the UNB Campus.

Featuring the most anticipated short films from around the province, film goers will want to be first in line to see NB Shorts I and II on Friday and Saturday night of the festival at 7 pm at Le Centre communautaire Sainte-Anne.

Also included in this year’s line up are stellar Short Film Programs, featuring both a Canadian and international selection, Midnight Madness where sci-fi meets horror, Next Gen Shorts, ViewFinders at SWFF, French Youth Shorts hosted by cinéRelève, CLiFF films that focus on the many nuances of labour and the people that work for a better life, and a timely look at Fracking compliments of Fredericton’s own Cinema Politica who always strive to bring the unvarnished story to the world.
