The Capitol Theatre presents Canada’s finest jazz talents, The Mike Murley Septet on Sunday, October 20th at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are now on sale at the Capitol Theatre Box Office starting at $23. This performance is part of the 2013-2014 Capitol Theatre season.

An engaging, lyrical saxophonist, Nova Scotia native Mike Murley is one of Canada’s finest jazz talents and one of the most versatile players on the scene today. Currently active as a leader in various formations from duo to septet, Murley also maintains a busy schedule as a sideman and jazz educator (University of Toronto). He has played on 10 Juno Award-winning recordings and was named saxophonist of the year eight times by the Jazz Report Awards/National Jazz Awards.

The Mike Murley Septet’s debut recording, Still Rollin’, received a 2012 Juno nomination for best mainstream jazz album and has garnered considerable critical acclaim. The septet is a showcase for the multi-Juno Award-winning saxophonist’s compositional and arranging skills and features some of the most dynamic improvisers on the Toronto jazz scene. The arrangements strive to maintain the open concept of a smaller jazz ensemble and are constructed around a buoyant rhythm section that can take the music in any direction. Rooted in the jazz tradition but not constrained by it, the septet’s music reflects the strong yet lyrical musical personality for which Murley has become known over the past three decades.

The group debuted in April 2005 at the dearly departed Top o’ The Senator jazz club and since then has continued to perform in and around the Toronto area. Members include Mike Murley (tenor saxophone), Tara Davidson (soprano and alto saxophone), Kevin Turcotte (trumpet), Terry Promane (trombone), David Braid (piano), Jim Vivian (bass) and Ted Warren (drums).

Tickets for Mike Murley Septet are available in person or by phone (1-800-567-1922 / 506-856-4379) at the Capitol Theatre Box Office at 811 Main Street in Moncton, or online at www.capitol.nb.ca.
