Call Issued for Young NB Artists, Aged 18-35

Young artists from New Brunswick have the chance to be part of Team Canada-New Brunswick and compete in the international cultural competition of the VII Games of La Francophonie taking place in Nice, France, from Sept. 6 to 15, 2013.

“I invite all young New Brunswick artists to take part in the cultural competitions that are an important part of these Games,” said Culture, Tourism and Healthy Living Minister Trevor Holder. “This promises to be a cultural adventure and an opportunity for New Brunswick artists to compete and showcase their talents on the international stage.”

The selection criteria are based on the quality of performance, and the competition is open to all New Brunswickers. The deadline for submissions is July 20.

“It is an honour for New Brunswick to take part in the 2013 Games of La Francophonie,” said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud, minister responsible for La Francophonie. “This international sporting and cultural event has special significance for our province because it provides a unique showcase for our cultural talents and is a fine way to celebrate our unique and diverse cultural heritage.”

Artists from 18 to 35 may take part in the cultural competition of the Games in one of 11 disciplines: street performance (puppet, juggling or hip hop), painting, sculpture, song, storytelling, original dance, literature (short story), photography and digital creation.

The Games bring together thousands of young people who excel in athletic and cultural activities from participating countries and governments of La Francophonie. They are held every four years, the last one having taken place in Beirut, Lebanon, in 2009.

The Canadian delegation to the Games is made up of three teams: Canada, Canada-New Brunswick and Canada-Quebec.
