Katherine Wright Centre Moves

rha Today women of the Greater Moncton area will have access to newly acquired digital mammography equipment and enhanced services at the Katherine Wright Centre, formerly known as the Katherine Wright Family Wellness Centre.  In order to accommodate the new equipment and services, the centre has moved to its new location at the Professional Arts Building on 100 Arden Street.

The Katherine Wright Centre strives to achieve excellence in providing and promoting services that improve the quality of life to women in the community and offers breast screening, breast health and colposcopy clinics.

“The breast screening clinic will be greatly enhanced through the addition of two new state-of-the-art digital mammography units purchased in partnership by The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation and Department of Health,” says Donald J. Peters, President and CEO of Regional Health Authority B. He says the addition of these units will allow more women to be screened for breast cancer and will significantly reduce wait times.

Digital mammography is a faster and more accurate method of detecting breast cancer and provides clear, detailed images of breast tissue within a matter of seconds. One of the two digital mammography units will be operational on Monday and the second in September.

“We are very excited that the breast health clinic and colposcopy clinic are also being added to the centre,” says Claire LeBlanc, Administrative Director, Women’s and Children’s Health of The Moncton Hospital. She says these two important services will allow for further investigation into breast and cervical cancer.

Bone densitometry services previously provided at the centre have been relocated to the medical imaging department of The Moncton Hospital.

In collaboration with the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, an official opening of the newly expanded Katherine Wright Centre will be held in September.

The centre is part of Regional Health Authority B’s multidisciplinary network of hospitals, health centres, services and programs leading the way in health promotion and education.
