Miramichi Crime Stoppers Launch Website

In conjunction with the Mighty Miramichi Online Community, Miramichi Crime Stoppers launched a new website earlier this month aimed at community awareness and local fundraising.

The website provides local news and upcoming events, detailed information on how to place a call to Crime Stoppers with tips regarding a crime, safety advice from various jurisdictions, and a list of unsolved crimes within the Miramichi Region that require public assistance.

“We hope that the public visits our site to learn about the program locally, and feel more at ease about placing a call to Crime Stoppers after reading the content,” said Steve MacDougald, Miramichi Crime Stoppers president.

However, MacDougald discouraged visitors about sending tips through email and other technical devices.

“We are not yet satisfied that we can receive information via email or the Internet that does not reveal a sender’s identity. We refuse to compromise the anonymity of the Crime Stoppers system,” MacDougald said.

He guaranteed anonymity to people who call the toll-free number 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) with any information regarding a crime in the community.

“New Brunswick Crime Stoppers is working hard to overcome the obstacles to providing a truly accessible service. We are working to devise ways of giving information securely online and details will be available soon,” MacDougald said.

Miramichi Crime Stoppers celebrates its 18th Anniversary in March. The program offers anonymity and cash awards to tipsters whose information leads to an arrest.
