Wilson’s Point awarded $215,000 from federal
agency
The foundations of an 18th century Presbyterian
church, built by the area’s first Scottish settlers, will form the cornerstone for the redevelopment of Wilson’s
Point. A church replica will be built over the foundation, which will house an interpretive museum.
This project, undertaken by the Scottish Heritage Association (Miramichi)
Inc., also includes redeveloping a trail network, repairing and refurbishing headstones in the church cemetery, building a
docking wharf and creating a monument to commemorate William Davidson, the first Scottish settler on the Miramichi.
The project is being made possible in part by an Atlantic Canada Opportunities
Agency investment of $215,673 through its Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF).

"Our association was very pleased to receive word that ACOA had supported
our efforts to restore Wilson’s Point at the Enclosure. This will allow us to preserve and promote the Scottish Heritage
of Wilson’s Point," said Frank Menzies, chair of the Scottish Heritage Association (Miramichi) Inc.
"We are very grateful for the assistance we received from the Highland
Society of New Brunswick at Miramichi, our local MP Charles Hubbard, our association members who have worked tirelessly to
make this project a reality, as well as other supporters in our community. We look forward to starting work on this project
as soon as possible."
This project forms a part of Miramichi’s
riverfront development strategy, and will provide an excellent opportunity to complement the Miramichi’s other visitor
attractions.
