Dealing with Addiction

A new support group has been developed to assist Miramichi area family members who want to learn more about the problems associated with addictions.

“When someone has an addiction to drugs, alcohol or gambling, their behavior also has a negative affect on their family and friends,” says Sylvette Robichaud, a social worker with Addictions Services who is responsible for facilitating the support group.

She says family members often struggle to understand why their loved ones have made certain choices and have many questions about the addiction.

She says the support group will address these issues and questions, helping families to cope better.

The Family Intervention Group will meet every second Thursday of the month, with the first meeting scheduled for November 10 (due to the holiday) from 1 - 3 p.m. at the Outpatient Addiction Services Department on 3 West at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
