Miramichi Regional Health Authority Board Meeting
The Miramichi Regional Health Authority Board of Trustees held a
regular meeting on Monday, March 22, 2004 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. The following are highlights of that meeting:
- Health authority recruits third family doctor
The Miramichi Regional Health Authority is pleased to announce that an
additional family physician has been recruited. Dr. Lisa Gillis will be relocating from Prince Edward Island and will begin
work at the Miramichi Medical Day Clinic on April 5. Dr. William Hobbs will also commence his practice on April 19. Dr. Nasima
Mottiar will begin her practice in the region at the beginning of June.
Ophthalmologist Dr. Krista Scott is returning in May for a six-week locum.
It was also reported that a full-time speech language pathologist has been
engaged by the Extra Mural Program to provide services to the preschool and adult Francophone population. She will arrive
in September. Fifteen new nursing graduates will start in May or June.
Recruitment continues for emergency department physicians, an internal
medicine specialist, a radiologist, nurses and a social worker. The organization continues to aggressively recruit pharmacists
as it is experiencing a critical shortage with the recent resignation of one of its pharmacists. "The resignation leaves one
full-time pharmacist of four full-time positions plus the pharmacy manager in the department," says Gary Foley, VP of Professional
Services. "We are currently talking to new graduates and community pharmacists to assist us in meeting our needs," says Foley.
- Financial Status
The Miramichi Regional Health Authority reported an operating deficit of
$686,821 for the ten-month period ending January 2004.
