Miramichi Dieticians Celebrate Nutrition Month
March is Nutrition Month across Canada. The theme for the month focuses
on Healthy Eating for School Aged Children and Youth (6 - 17 years). The slogan is Eat Well, Play Well.
To celebrate the month, Miramichi dieticians and nutritionists will be
holding various educational events for the public and the Miramichi Regional Health Authority staff. An informational display
will be held March 8 - 12 in the main lobby of the Miramichi Regional Hospital. A dietician will be available to answer questions
from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
During the third week of March, there will be a lunch box display open
to the public, with recipes, snack ideas, information on calcium, fibre, iron for kids, and a mix and match sandwich guide.
It will be held March 15 - 19 outside the public elevators on the fifth floor of the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
During the last week of March, individuals will be able to visualise the
fat and sugar content of popular and favourite children’s food. An informational display open to the public will be
held March 22 - 26 outside the public elevators on the fifth floor of the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
Also during this week, health authority employees and physicians will have
an opportunity to enter a team and demonstrate their nutritional knowledge by participating in a Who Wants to be a Millionaire
Game. The game is based on the popular television program and will focus on children’s nutrition. Prizes will be awarded
to the team with the most points.
Dieticians in the community will also be marking the month through various
activities. Public Health nutritionists have developed and planned several activities promoting healthy eating and active
living in the schools and have prepared an information newsletter for parents. The Sobeys dietician will have an information
booth at the Douglastown store with information about healthy lunch boxes.
