Addiction Awareness Week

Every year during the month of November, Addiction Services throughout New Brunswick recognise National Addictions Awareness Week. Activities celebrating the theme “Addiction Awareness begins with you” were held November 15th – 19th.

“The theme identifies that we are all responsible for our own health and lifestyle choices and the best way to make healthy choices is to be sure we have all the right information,” said Cynthia MacDonald, Regional Manager for Addiction Services.

She said the theme also indicates that as parents and family members we have a role to play in educating our children or sharing our knowledge with loved ones about the realities and dangers of using drugs, alcohol, or gambling.

Community awareness, education, prevention and health promotion are issues Addiction Services staff address throughout the year. Addictions Awareness Week allows these important issues to be highlighted throughout the community.

Throughout the week, staff in the department provided education sessions in various schools, participated in the Burnt Church First Nation’s Health Fair, and recognised community partners and clients.

The theme of Addiction Services is “My Life, My Health, My Choices,” which exemplifies their commitment to client centred care, responsible use, and wellness.

The Staff of Addiction Services are available 24 hours a day, and offer free bilingual, confidential services. If you require further information about these services or need help for an addiction, please call (506) 623-3375.
