Miramichi SPCA Opens New Office
Staffed by volunteers, the Miramichi SPCA recently opened a Fundraising
Campaign Office at 112 Ellen Street, between Siddall's Jewellers and Deux Maples Art Gallery.
Over the next three months a major campaign to raise money for the SPCA
animal shelter will be launched.
These funds will go toward the substantial cost of setting up an animal
shelter for the Miramichi region, specifically in moving the building to its new location in the Chatham Industrial Park across
from Miramichi Feeds and pouring the cement slab for the building's foundation.
A number of activities and special events have been planned for these next
few months, one of which is an essay contest in March on the theme of "Why I Love Animals." This contest will be open to youth
12 years of age and under with lots of prizes to be awarded.
Arch Pafford, President of the SPCA, says, "This is a big first step in
our public awareness campaign. The Miramichi region is in desperate need of an animal shelter. Having this fundraising office
will give us much needed visibility and also provide a place where animal lovers and friends of the SPCA can conveniently
drop by, have a chat, a coffee or make a donation. We now believe it is possible to reach our goal and have a shelter opened
by the 15th of June."
Fundraising Chairperson, Mary Raymond, and her many volunteers are looking
forward to this challenge.
The SPCA has a poster "girl" to help get the message across to the public,
which will be displayed prominently throughout the city and its outlying areas.
If you happen to be walking your dog around the Town Square, a fresh bowl
of water will be available outside.
Donations may be made at the Fundraising Office, both branches of the Miramichi
Beaubear Credit Union, Blackville Credit Union and by mail to:
