The Bourne Supremacy, starring Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Brian Cox and Joan Allen, hit video stores this week.
In this second film based on the books by author Robert Ludlum, Damon returns as a restless Jason Bourne still tormented
with nightmares of his past. This time we find Bourne attempting a normal life, but when a CIA operation goes awry, he must
revert to his old ways in order to survive.
Matt Damon gives an intense performance, managing to capture both the darkness and the heart of his character. On the hunt
for Bourne this time is Joan Allen, who joins the cast as Agent Pamela Landy. Her icy cool scenes alongside the prolific Brian
Cox almost steal the show.
Director Paul Greengrass, best known for his movie Bloody Sunday, strays away from the normal stereotypes of directing
a spy action film. Using amazing camera angles and absolutely no CGI, Greengrass manages to put us inside the action. We are
no longer just observers; we become almost active participants.
The Bourne Supremacy is not your average action movie. It includes intricate, yet fast-paced, fight scenes and over-the-top
car chases, without omitting the basics of a suspenseful plot and character development. This is one of those rare sequels,
as good as or even better than the original, that leaves you at the end wishing for a third film to pop into your player and
continue the journey.
The DVD is loaded with special features. Along with the usual deleted scenes and commentary with the director, there are
an amazing nine featurettes which detail everything from casting, locations, stunts, fight training, scoring and more.
