Purple Hat Ladies Garden Party

Thirteen ladies wearing purple hats and beautifully gowned arrived for a fun filled afternoon at the home of Kay Bell at 2 p.m. on August 4, 2004.

We sat under a little arbour and chatted until all the ladies arrived.

When everyone was settled, Kay’s daughter and daughter-in-law served a delightful drink. Kennedy, a gorgeous and so polite four year old granddaughter of Kay's, helped them.

Polly came as Bobbie’s guest, but was shy about wearing a purple hat.

Wilma had Mira our mascot who was seated prettily on a bench among the flowers.

The garden was gorgeous with an abundance of flowers, and roses of all colours . . . even purple. A lovely waterfall graced the corner of the flower garden. Jack planned and planted purple flowers in the spring knowing we would have our garden party.

To our delight, Matilda arrived and we were able to congratulate her on the honour of receiving the "Order of New Brunswick." We clapped, toasted and cheered her, as she gracefully bowed to our applause. We are so proud of Matilda. She adds so much to our fun times.

To put us in a jolly good mood we began our afternoon tea by singing our theme song My Purple Hat, composed by Wilma and put to music by my son-in-law, Percy.

Next Bobbie entertained us with her version of the Rum Cake. No one can do it quite like Bobbie and we never tire of her rendition. She also read the story of the poor old lady and her headstone.

Matilda gave us a couple of tunes on her fiddle as we tapped our toes to the tunes she composed. Bobbie and I even had a little dance. It's a delight to have Matilda wearing a purple hat.

There was more laughter as stories and poems were shared.

It was now time for tea as Lillian read her poem on "Tea" and we sang our "Grace." Kay's daughters served delicious sandwiches and sweets along with a great cup of tea.

We ended our afternoon with a Chinese tea brewed in a Chinese teapot and
served in demitasse cups and saucers.

We are "Blessed Among Women" to be able to enjoy such a delightful afternoon amidst joyful fun and laughter in a story book atmosphere.

Thank you Jack and Kay!

I had made wine bottle labels with the purple hat lady and words indicating what we were up to and where. Jack says he is saving the wine for a special occasion.
