Kit Pearson Workshop

The Writers' Federation of New Brunswick (WFNB) welcomed Governor General
award-winning author Kit Pearson for a public reading and workshop for writers as part of the Alden Nowlan Literary Festival
being held in Fredericton this month.
“C. Walter Hodges has written about the common ground shared by the adult
in the child and the child in the adult," Pearson said about the writers' workshop appropriately called A Common Ground.
"Together we will explore how considerations of character, plot, theme and structure in novels for children are affected
by this common ground," she said. "The workshop will consist of lecture, discussion and class exercises. Note that it is suitable
for those wishing to write for young readers aged 8 and up, not for picture book writers.”
Kit Pearson was born
in Edmonton in 1947 and grew up there and in Vancouver. She received her B.A. from the University of Alberta, her M.L.S. from
the University of British Columbia and her M.A. from the Simmons College Centre for the Study of Children’s Literature
in Boston.
Pearson worked for 10 years as a children’s librarian in Ontario and British Columbia and is
now a full-time writer living in Vancouver. She has written seven novels for children including The Daring Game, A
Handful of Time, the Guests of War trilogy, Awake and Dreaming, and Whispers of War: the War of 1812
Diary of Susanna Merritt.
Pearson's books have been published in Canada in English and French, and in the United
States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain. She has won 12 awards for her writing,
including the Governor General’s Award for Awake and Dreaming and the Vicky Metcalf Award for her body of work.
