Ottawa author Alan Cumyn will give a writing workshop at McCord Hall (the
Ice House), UNB, on Saturday, September 25th, beginning
at 10 am, as part of the Alden Nowlan Literary Festival.
In the Writing for Kids and Everyone Else workshop, Cumyn will explore
the key differences in writing for children and adults, while getting at the fundamentals of creating worthwhile fiction no
matter who you're writing for.
Cumyn, who among other pursuits taught English in China and Indonesia and
held interesting posts concerning human rights and international development before committing full-time to fiction writing
five years ago, will also explore strategies to allow yourself to write well in different life situations.
Alan Cumyn has won fiction awards both for his work for children and for
adults. His work for children includes The Secret Life of Owen Skye, winner of the Mr. Christie's Book Award and the
Hackmatack Children's Choice Book Award, and its newly released sequel After Sylvia.
His six critically acclaimed novels for adults include Giller-nominee and
Ottawa Book Award winner Burridge Unbound and, more recently, Losing It and The Sojourn.
The Alden Nowlan Literary Festival is an annual Writers' Federation of
New Brunswick (WFNB) event and runs three weeks from September 16th until October 3rd.
