Paint Matching Matters
After a collision, or even if you have a minor scratch on your car, take
your vehicle to a shop you trust to precisely match your new paint to your car’s original colour.
Your vehicle carries a paint code that identifies the colour of your car
on a label or plate located under the hood, trunk or door jam.
Paint manufacturers have devised paint mixing formulas used by repair shops
so they can mix this formula to find the exact colour of your car.
If your vehicle colour isn’t accurate to the formula specified by
the factory, the first step in paint matching is tinting or varying the amount of the components in the formula.
This usually gives excellent results however, if a perfect match can’t
be obtained by tinting alone, then blending techniques are used. Blending techniques are used with the best-tinted
colour.
The last bit of inconsistency on your car is made invisible by painting
portions of the vehicle next to the repaired areas so you can’t even notice the colour changes. This can make the difference
between a "very good" match and a "completely invisible" repair.
Proper paint matching requires a high level of skill and sometimes a great
deal of patience.
When you select a repair facility make sure they will take the time to
produce a match in the perfect range and will not be satisfied with merely ‘good’ results.
