Family Traditions
Our Hidy Ho Book
By Joan Cripps
One lunch hour when our granddaughters in Grades 2 and 3 came to have lunch
with us, we decided to keep a little journal.
We needed a secret place to hide our book, as it was going to be very special,
so we hid it in a vent in the floor. And then every time they came to visit we would get the book out and add more to it.
This was our exciting fun time together.
They wrote about their friends, schoolwork and even the boys they liked. I'd
tell them to put it all down in their book. Three granddaughters, all from different families, used this book when they were
around ages 8, 9,10 and 11.
They are all young women now. Two are married and still like to get their
book out to read. They leave our home with a nice warm feeling.
When the first girl got married, I read some of these writings at the rehearsal
party, and I plan on reading for another one in the fall.
You may like to try this with your children and grandchildren.
